Kansas Semi-Guided: Clay, Dickinson, and Geary Counties

Camp Kay Outfitters is proud to offer semi-guided whitetail hunts in Clay, Dickenson, and Geary counties- Kansas. These hunts are located in one of the best trophy producing areas in the country; North- Central Kansas, Unit 8. We have secured over 2000 acres of private land combined with over 20,000 acres of public hunting around Milford Lake offering varying terrain comprised of creek bottoms, conservation reserve program grasslands and a mix of agricultural fields. Our areas hold large numbers of Pope & Young and Boone & Crockett bucks.  We offer many different hunts including archery, firearm, muzzleloader, memberships and turkey hunts.

Our guides are all local hunters who know where and when to place hunters during various times of the season. Our hunts are semi-guided and include a guide, land, stands/ blinds, and processing. We will set you up in the areas that we feel present the best hunting opportunity for you to harvest a mature whitetail deer. While some of the best trophy bucks in the country come from our hunting areas, we also encourage the harvesting of does (limit 1- license cost $52.50).   The hunting is primarily set up for the advanced trophy hunter looking to harvest a 140” and above buck with a bow, muzzleloader, or rifle. Crossbow hunting is also allowed during the firearm season.  You may use either fixed or mechanical broad heads on our trophy archery hunts. We provide and place all tree stands and blinds for you and will make slight adjustments as needed so there is no need to bring a stand for this hunt. Upon arrival you will be required to sign a waiver of liability and shoot your weapon to make sure that it is sighted in. Hunters will be shown trail cam pictures of the bucks they will be hunting. Over the past several years these properties have yielded many large bucks as you can see from the pictures and there are many bucks that we have captured on trail cam for potential hunters to harvest. Hunters will stay in motel/hotels in Abilene, Kansas, and can bring food or eat at the local restaurants.

The schedule for hunting is listed below, and all hunts will be either membership or 5 ½ days and include an arrival/ scouting day (afternoon hunt), and a minimum of 5 full days or more (memberships) of hunting.  A 50% deposit will be due upon booking any hunt and your balance is due 60 days prior to your arrival date unless other arrangements have been made. If for some unforeseen reason, you cannot attend the scheduled hunt, we will hold your spot for the following year only but your entire hunt balance is still due 60 days prior to your arrival date. We are currently booking for the 2012-2013 season so be sure to secure your spot on these limited availability hunts.

All individuals, regardless of land ownership or age, must have in possession valid permits or tags to hunt big game or turkeys in Kansas. Kansas Whitetail Deer Hunting Licenses and Permits

Permits and licenses are not included in the hunt prices. It is the responsibility of the hunter to obtain the proper permits and licenses. Whitetail hunters will need a Nonresident Hunting License which costs $72.50 and a Nonresident whitetail permit valid for UNIT 8, which costs $322.50.  Nonresident whitetail permits are distributed by drawing, but for the past several years every hunter that has applied has been drawn.  The application period for 2012 is April 1-27th.  Leftover permits are available on a first come first serve basis and did sell out in the 2011 season.

Please go to the following Kansas Wildlife and parks Web site page for further details.

To purchase a hunting license, you must do one of the following:
  • Apply for Unit 8 and hunting weapon (Archery, Firearm, or Muzzleloader) during the application period and Present a previously held hunting license, or
  • Present evidence of having successfully completed a hunter education course (from any state)

All hunts are semi- guided and include Land, Guide, Stands/ Blinds, Field Care, and Processing. Our hunts do not include license, permit, meals, lodging, and gratuity. Hunts are priced based on private or public hunting areas. Membership hunts take place on privately leased acres.

  • In an effort to promote trophy bow hunting, we will be targeting bucks that are at least 3 ½ years old and have at least 125” of mass. Our policy in Kansas is that if you harvest a buck below 125”, it will be up to our discretion whether or not you will be penalized. If we decide to penalize you, the options that you will have will either be to pay a fine of $500, or re-book for the following year with a $500 deposit toward the cost of the hunt. Not many outfitters would be this fair with customers shooting sub-par bucks despite the management efforts that have been set forth for all hunters to have an enjoyable hunting experience.
  • Hunter orange is required for all firearm or muzzleloader hunts.
  • If you wound a deer and we are unable to retrieve it, you may continue to hunt only after signing a hunting agreement and making a $250 deposit for the following year’s hunt.
